Today I've mostly been ...

....working on some moving parts

Vinegar, Zinc & some Nokia-electricity

Balen calling in with a pickled status report! As I'm still in search of a suitable gearbox for the Comet so I've started to work on the rear suspension....sand blasting and zinc plating....de-rusting as some of you may call it. Albert did almost lost an eye to get his secret pre-war kitchen cupboard zinc plating formula correct .... but it works!!

Four of Four (& Seven of Nine)

Albert here......writing to you from Blighty Base Camp......
Remember only four were there as the Commer Cried............
Here's the final survivor........
DucatiKoen - 'Four of Four'   Man of mystery & open toe sandals (with no socks)

So, let's crack on because before the Commer could cry the front engine mounts had to be fabricated. Plenty of filing, grinding, welding and sawing lay ahead.........
but within a few hours the results of our labours were taking shape.....

Prettier than the marine mount ?
Once bolted in place the Commer was firmly suspended in it's new home........ROCK STEADY !!!!!
Lashing the old Dodge Charger radiator to the front of the motor and filling with coolant left only two small but critical jobs.....

1) Find a battery capable of cranking the old girl
2) Fill a jerry can with fuel

Small tasks for our hero's........expertly done in a matter of hours

Then electricity and fuel suddenly became united-
The Cry of the Commer rung out across the Belgium Flatlands......
Like the Howl of the Hound of the Baskervilles.........
A Chilling and Blood Curdling Screammmmmmmmmmmm broke the night.......

The Commers Knockers were once again revolving and ALIVE.....................!
Beware - This is going to be one fearful creation......

Now...........What about the Borg ?
Ok..........we give in.........after a meeting of 'The Comittee' it has been decided they can join the 'Oilyracer' blog, but only if they behave and thoroughly read all the Workshop Manuals.

Front supports - Firm and uplifting (& Seven of Nine)

Albert here - Oilyracers pay attention.....
We could hardly leave the Commer dangling on 2 rubbers could we ? Speedily we combined our thought powers ....wowwwww...wowwwwww....woooooooowwwweeeeeee
A mind meld of 2 continental super powers......best done holding a beer......
Being crafty we had purchased 4 Merc engine mounts at the Auto shop......1 for each corner ?
But the sensible thing to do at this point would be to take advantage of the engine mount bracket designed by the Commer draughtsman 50 years ago.....which we did.....
So.....off with the marine mount....rusty old bit of shi**

The old salt water had not been kind to the bolts........but we overcame.....someone had to....

Next step
Positioning the middle in the middle with a super accurate laser beeeeeeem...

Man ! Precision is our game....Lasertastic is our name

So, the Commer was now hung low and mean.......
and ready for Stage 2 of 'Front Supports - Firm and Uplifting...'
I bet you can't wait ?.

In the meantime keep a look out for the Borg.........
